‘Hokey’s Song’ was my first attempt to ‘install a story’ in a gallery space. The gallery was filled with baby doug firs (gifted to visitors for planting) and featured works in video, drawing, fibers, text and installation. In this story, Hokey Bear bemourns the loss of the young boy Saul to the ashy Mt. St. Helen wildlands — Saul’s place of birth. I see this as a succinct chapter in an epic tale.
